Service Dog Application Process
Step 1: Complete a Formal Application
Once an inquiry form is submitted, a digital application will be emailed via Docusign. This needs to be completed before a phone consultation is scheduled.
Step 2: Phone Consultation & In-Home Visit
Once we receive a completed application we will reach out to set up a phone consultation to review the application and answer any questions regarding our program. We also require a home visit to asses the home environment to be sure a service dog would be a good fit.
Step 3: Dog Selection
Once we know what type of service dog is needed, we can begin the search for a potential dog. We match clients and dogs based on the type of service work required, size of the dog, temperament, energy level and the client's lifestyle. We commonly use Labrador Retrievers, Labradoodles, Goldendoodles, and Standard Poodles.
Step 4: Formal Training & Placement
Once a dog has been selected for the client, formal task training begins (Phase 3). We custom train each of our dogs specifically for the client's needs and formal task training takes 4-6 months. After the dog is fully trained and has passed all its testing, we transport the service dog to the client's home area for private in-home training. Team training (Phase 4) typically lasts 5-7 days.
